Remus was wasting time. Remus, pyjama-bottomed, muzzy, adorably bed-headed Remus, was wasting precious time brushing his teeth when he could have been snogging Sirius.

"Can't you just do a breath freshening charm?" Sirius grumbled into Remus's bare shoulder. "It's quicker."

Remus spit calmly into the sink and examined his tongue in the mirror, ignoring the boy clinging to his back. "I like to clean my teeth properly, Pads. They don't feel right, otherwise."

Sirius muttered something unintelligible and derogatory to Remus's shoulder blades. With his face pressed to his boyfriend's spine, he didn't notice the wicked grin that flickered across Remus's face as he lifted the tube of toothpaste and uncapped it for a second time.

Eyes still closed, Sirius smirked triumphantly as he felt Remus turning in his arms. Nothing like a little whinging to get your way, he thought, as he felt the other boy's long fingers cradle his jaw and draw his face forward. Minty breath ghosted across his parted lips.

And then a mint-coated tongue swiped across the roof of his mouth, leaving a sticky trail of toothpaste in its wake. Sirius started backward in surprise, eyes popping open. He felt a brief surge of indignation at having been pranked, but it evaporated when he saw the delight on Remus's face.

"I suppose dental hygiene does have its place," he concurred, as Remus laughingly applied more toothpaste to an index finger. Sirius grabbed the annointed hand and sucked the finger into his mouth, watching Remus's eyes darken as he did so.

"You just hold still." Remus's gruff whisper sent a shiver down his spine, and he nodded eagerly, placing his palms on the other boy's hips as an anchor. Remus dragged his wet finger from Sirius's mouth, across his lips, and into his hair, pulling him closer and angling his head precisely. "Open your mouth," he ordered, and leaned in.

Remus's tongue glided slowly over Sirius's teeth. The tip of his tongue niggled toothpaste into the gums. Broad, flat licks swiped cleansing foam over his cuspids. Sirius, invaded in the best possible way, breathed deeply through his nose and clung to Remus's narrow hips as the other boy gave him the cleanest, most thorough snog he'd ever experienced.

Just as he could feel the lathered toothpaste beginning to dribble over his chin, Remus turned both their faces over the sink. "Now spit," he said.

Sirius caught sight of both their faces in the mirror as he straightened. "Toothpaste mustaches!" he crowed, as the bathroom door opened behind him. He grinned maniacally at Peter's reflection.

Peter grabbed the toothpaste tube matter-of-factly, painting his upper lip with a clean line of blue and then sweeping it expertly across his skin with a toothbrush. He bowed to the others' laughing applause for his swirling walrus mustache as James entered the bathroom.

"You lot call those mustaches? Prepare to be amazed." James piled his brush high with paste, scrubbed his mouth vigorously, and happily drooled himself a foaming Father Christmas toothpaste beard.

Amidst the ensuing hoots of laughter, the spraying water, and the globs of toothpaste flicked from toothbrushes into hair, Sirius managed a lick to Remus's ear.

"I promise--" he huffed, ducking before an onslaught of Peter's specially charmed shampoo bubbles;"I promise--" he giggled, as James slid past on soapy feet; "I promise," he declared, grabbing Remus around the waist as much to stay upright as for the warm touch of his skin, "I promise to brush my teeth every single day."
